Una isla no son las Canarias

Lanzarote does something no other island in the archipelago does: the volcanic landscape, Manrique’s architecture, the black and the white. That’s why you chose it.

But the Canaries are eight islands and each one goes its own way. Tenerife has Teide, laurel forest and the two largest parks in the archipelago. Gran Canaria has a proper city, with its aquarium sitting in the port.

And they’re a short hop away. Arrecife to Tenerife North is around 50 minutes, with Binter and Canaryfly running the route several times a day. Less than it takes to cross most cities at rush hour.

If you’ve got spare days in the trip, you could go home having seen two islands rather than one.

This page is for you if:

You’ve got a week or more and a day going spare

You’re travelling with children or teenagers and need a day that wears them out

You live in the Canaries and you’re planning a few days on Tenerife or Gran Canaria

Choose your park

Siam Park · Costa Adeje, Tenerife

A water park covering 18.5 hectares with around twenty attractions.

TripAdvisor users have voted it the world’s best water park for ten consecutive years (Travellers’ Choice), and in 2023 it also took the award for the world’s best amusement park, up against theme parks of every kind.

It’s comfortably the most decorated park in the archipelago.

What sets it apart from an ordinary water park:

  • The Wave Palace, a wave pool of more than 13,500 m²
  • Tower of Power, a near-vertical drop slide that passes through a shark aquarium
  • Mai Thai River, a kilometre-long lazy river running the length of the park
  • Kinnaree, a 200-metre hybrid slide

Who it suits: families with children from around 8, teenagers, groups of friends. How long: a full day. Don’t try to pair it with anything else.

Official opening hours:

Summer (1 May – 29 October) 10:00–18:00.

Winter (30 October – 30 April) 10:00–17:00.

Tip: go midweek and arrive at opening. In August and on Saturdays the queues for the big rides will swallow your morning.

Loro Parque · Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife

Poema del Mar · Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Aquarium on the quayside in Las Palmas. An indoor visit that slots into a day in the city and works just as well in heat as in rain.

Who it suits: families with young children, or anyone spending a weekend in Las Palmas who wants a half-day plan.

Twin Ticket: if you’re doing both Tenerife parks

How to add the island hop from Lanzarote

To Tenerife (Siam Park and Loro Parque) Direct flight from Arrecife (ACE). Around 50 minutes, 270 kilometres. Binter and Canaryfly both run the route several times daily.

For Siam Park, look for Tenerife South (TFS) — the park is right there in Costa Adeje.

For Loro Parque, look for Tenerife North (TFN) — you’ll be far closer to Puerto de la Cruz.

To Gran Canaria (Poema del Mar) Direct flight from Arrecife (ACE) to Las Palmas (LPA), under an hour. The aquarium is in the port, inside the city itself.

Canary Islands residents get a discount on inter-island flights. Check when booking.

How to fit it in:

  • One park: doable in a day if you fly out early and back late. Tight, but it works.
  • Twin Ticket (both parks): you’ll need at least one night on Tenerife. Don’t squeeze it into a day.
  • Poema del Mar: works well as a day trip to Las Palmas — aquarium in the morning, city in the afternoon.

And if you decide to stay put in Lanzarote

Fair enough. Between flights, tickets and a night’s accommodation, a park day adds up. What you’ve got here without boarding a plane:

The volcanic north, which is why people come to this island in the first place

Getting out on the water: boat trips, catamaran to Papagayo, a full day on La Graciosa

Water and animal parks on Lanzarote itself ⚠️ PENDING — Juan to confirm internal URLs

And either way, the car comes first.

Without one you won’t reach much on Lanzarote, and booking ahead costs noticeably less than the desk price.

Not sure how to split your days between islands?

FAQs

No. Siam Park and Loro Parque are on Tenerife; Poema del Mar is in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. There are direct flights from Lanzarote — Arrecife to Tenerife North takes around 50 minutes.

Because TripAdvisor users have voted it exactly that for ten consecutive years in the Travellers’ Choice awards. In 2023 it also won the world’s best amusement park category. It covers 18.5 hectares

Yes. Tickets are bought on each park’s official website, with their payment system and their terms. There’s no mark-up for booking through us.

Only if you’re visiting both Tenerife parks. You save €10, and you have 15 days from your first visit to use the second ticket.

Yes. The parks have resident rates, proven with a Spanish DNI on arrival. Under-14s without a DNI need a certificate of residence from their town hall.

Not sensibly. It’s a full day out. If you’ve only got half a day on Tenerife, do something else.
